After almost half a decade, the Queensland parents have a new baby girl name.
Climbing from fourth in 2018, Olivia took the top spot last year in a very tight score said Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Mark Ryan.
“It was a closer race for girls names, with Olivia only claiming top spot by one, bumping Charlotte to second. Charlotte had been the state’s most popular girl’s name for the past four years”, he stated.
According to the data released by the RBDM (Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages), Queensland’s favourite baby names had remained consistent over the past decade.
Girls

Boys

“Oliver continues the streak it started in 2013 when it overtook Jack. A solid win in 2019, with 537 newborn boys taking the name compared to 393 for second placed William”, said Mr Ryan.
Mr Ryan said the RBDM data showed little change in our top 10 most popular names from 2018. “New top 10 entries for the boys in 2019 were Hudson and Elijah, while for the girls Matilda snuck in at number 10.”
“Willow, a new entry for girls in 2018, was again a big mover climbing from eighth to fourth,” he said.
Popular names over the past decade had been fairly consistent, there had been some interesting movements.
“While royal births and popular cultural phenomenon like Star Wars or Game of Thrones may see a spike in some names, Queensland parents clearly had their favourites,” he said
